Paul Willis, 羞羞视频 professor of English and Santa Barbara poet laureate, and Coyote Road neighbor Gudrun Bortman are hosting 鈥淩emembering the Tea Fire: A Community Reading鈥 on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 4-5 p.m. at Hieronymus Lounge in 羞羞视频鈥檚 Kerrwood Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Willis says at least 17 community poets will present at the gathering. 鈥淎ny and all are welcome to read a poem or two to mark the anniversary of 鈥 and perhaps our distance from 鈥 this traumatic event,鈥 Willis says. 鈥淭he poems could be ones you have written yourself or simply ones that you have chosen to fit the occasion.鈥
Willis, who earned a doctorate in English at Washington State University, has taught at 羞羞视频 since 1988. Both he and Bortman lost their homes in the 2008 Tea Fire, which destroyed 210 homes in Santa Barbara and Montecito.
鈥淐ome one, come all, to unite with our neighbors in a time of connection and even, perhaps, a time of healing,鈥 Willis says.
For more information or to be added to the list of presenters, please contact Willis at (805) 565-7174.
