������Ƶ professors offer a musically diverse program when they present the Fall Faculty Recital in Deane Chapel Friday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m. The program features vocal and instrumental pieces ranging from classical to jazz, offering community members and students a taste of the breadth and depth of the department. The event is free and open to the public.

Highlights include Santa Barbara composer Emma Lou Diemer performing “Homage to Paderewski” on piano with violinist Philip Ficsor, Valerie Malvinni performing a viola concerto by Franz Anton Hoffmeister, and saxophonist Craig Thomas and pianist John Douglas performing “Scrapple from the Apple” by Charlie Parker. The program concludes with pianist Neil Di Maggio and baritone Michael Shasberger, Adams professor of worship and music, performing a set of songs by Handel, Britten and Ives whimsically entitled “Wild Things.”

“The faculty recital is important to us as musicians,” says Steve Butler, who chairs the department. “It’s also valuable for students who will hopefully be inspired toward mastery of their own musical endeavors.”
