Dr. Earl Rosenthal, a professor emeritus of the history of art at the University of Chicago who died last year, donated more than 250 books to Westmont, some to be kept in the college鈥檚 rare book collection. Susan Savage, chair of 奥别蝉迟尘辞苍迟鈥檚 art department, befriended Rosenthal during his retirement years in Santa Barbara. She says some duplicate and specialized books have been shipped to UC Santa Barbara and UCLA.

Conceived as a culmination of their theatre education, the play is 鈥渁 very avant garde sort of piece鈥 according to Martens, who designed the costumes. 鈥淢y designs play with gender issues, disguise, and the inability to maintain disguise.鈥

Visiting scholar Araceli Ard贸n will lecture on 鈥淭he Caves of Altamira, Spain: A guided Tour of the Oldest Museum in the World鈥 Thursday, Nov. 1, at 3:30 p.m. in 奥别蝉迟尘辞苍迟鈥檚 Hieronymus Lounge. Ard贸n is one of the few people in the past three decades who have entered Altamira Cave, famous for its Upper Paleolithic paintings.

President Gayle Beebe has welcomed long-time co-worker Doug Jones to Westmont as vice president for finance. Jones fills a position left vacant when Ron Cronk retired last year after working at the college for 22 years.Jones was vice president of finance and administration at Spring Arbor University for the seven years Beebe served president there. Jones left his job as controller at Huntington College, his alma mater, in 2000 when Beebe recruited him to Spring Arbor University.
